I am a parishioner at St. John’s in Vernon CT and have recently become interested in Tzize after listening to a CD. What kind of service do you have and how do you incorporate the music? I’d like to put an ecumenical-type service together for our community and would like to bring in our choir and the head of a long-standing prayer group. Thank you!

[...] In a decision of some moment to Episcopalians on Mount Desert Island, the members of the Parish of Saint Andrew and Saint John in a special parish meeting this past Sunday 30 April voted to sell Saint Andrew. Find out more at the parish web site here, here and here. The sale is not likely to happen quickly. It must first be endorsed by the Diocese. And in spite of this decision, seasonal services will resume at Saint Andrews at 8:00am Sunday June 4. Also, there will be a Taizé service at Saint Andrew at 7pm Sunday June 11. [...]

    Hi Vance-

    Good to hear from you.

Everything I know about Taizé services I know from participating in the services we do here on Mount Desert Island. We try to have one service a month and the service is at a different church each month. Both Episcopal and UCC churches host the services. There’s a pretty regular ecumencial group of regular attendee of which, unfortunately I am not a part as often as I might like.

    The service goes like this.

Participants are encouraged to enter quietly. The sanctuary is set up with icons, candles and bright fabrics. When folk enter they’re given a Taizé song book and an order of service. The worship alternates Taizé music, silence, prayer and scripture reading. The Taizé music pieces are fairly short and repetative - very chant like, but you’ve got a CD so you know about that. At the end of the service people leave quietly.
