The Transfiguration window is back!

It’s back! The Transfiguration window in the west wall of St. Mary’s-by-the-Sea is finally back in place, a testament to the progress being made in the restoration project. The roof tiling is almost finished, as well, which will allow protective plywood to be removed from many of the other windows and once again the light will stream through the stained glass.

On August 27tth during her visitation , Bishop Knudsen rededicated the Transfiguration window, in memory of William Reed Huntington who wrote the collect for the Feast of the Transfiguration, reportedly while contemplating on the summit of Sargent Mountain. She also gave a short, but delightful, explanation of the composition of the window itself.

Les Petits Chanteurs

Les Petits Chanteurs, a 30-voice boy’s choir and string quintet from Holy Trinity School of Music in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, will be performing on Wednesday, September 27, at 7 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bangor (among other places in our fair state). There are significant travel costs involved in bringing this group to Maine. If you would like to offer financial support to help fund this endeavor, checks should be payable to “The Diocese of Maine” and mailed to 143 State Street, Portland 04101 – Attn: Canon Vicki Wiederkehr, with “Les Petits Chanteurs” on the memo line.

Safe Church Training

Nearby Safe Church Training is being offered on Saturday, October 7, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Brewer. The two distinct sessions are: “Preventing Child Sexual Abuse in Church Settings” from 9:30 to 11:30 am, followed by “Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention” from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Choral Evening Prayer

On Tuesday, August 15th, St. Mary’s- by- the-Sea will be offering a choral evening prayer service at 6:00 PM. at the church on South Shore Drive to celebrate the Feast of St. Mary the Virgin, our patron saint. The service will be followed by an informal wine and cheese reception at the rectory, which is 3 Kimball Road, just back up the street a bit. Please join us!
