Did you know . . .? Diocesan and parish policies require approximately 4 hours of training on issues of child abuse in church settings for all clergy, volunteers who regularly supervise youth activities, employees, and Sunday School teachers. The next locally-held Safe Church Training will be offered at St. Dunstan’s on Saturday, May 13 May 6, with a morning session from 10 am to 12 noon on child safety and an afternoon session from 12 noon to 2 pm on pastoral relationships. Vestry members, who have not already done so, are urged to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions. Please register by May 8 May 1 with Pam at 1-800-244-6062 (ext. 21).

Dear Episcopal friends:
I hope that there are members of your congregations that would like to sing with the St. Saviour's choir on Palm Sunday. Here are the details:
Rehearsals on Thursday, March 30 and April 6 (7-8pm)
(an earlier email had the incorrect time)
Anthem: "Lift Up Your Heads" by William Matthias
Hymns: 154, 164, 474, 435
Sanctus: S-130
It would be helpful to know who plans to sing so that I can have music ready. The anthem is not sight-readable, so rehearsal attendance is very important. You can leave a message for me anytime at St. Saviour's (288-4215).
I look forward to our Palm Sunday celebration and to having some additional voices in the choir! Please call if you have any questions.
Julia Morris-Myers
Director of Music, St. Saviour's

Sounds like the title of a story, and it’s the beginning of a long saga yet to be written. At the meeting of the Area 2 delegates on Sunday, January 15, Sarah Flynn and Vesta Kowalski, both (presently) from St. John’s were chosen as the lay and clergy representatives from this region to the Search Committee for the next Bishop of Maine. The Standing Committee will make the actual appointments of one clergy and one lay representative from each area, and an additional four (maximum) other committee members from among those who were nominated but not elected in their various areas. The Committee is charged with recommending a slate of candidates from which our next bishop will be elected at the 2007 Diocesan Convention.

Our bishop, Chilton Knudsen, will be inducted into the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame at the University of Maine in Augusta on Saturday, March 18. St. John’s Evelyn Rowland helped start the approval process, and has information about attending the event.
Was anyone else from MDI involved in the process?

At our diocesan convention in October Maine congregations pledged to take time to study the Windsor Report which, in part, explores the nature of what it means to be the Anglican Communion. Diocesan Resource Center Director Elizabeth Ring has provided updated study materials to assist congregations in their efforts. The pdf file is here. An html version is here.
