Dear Episcopal friends:
I hope that there are members of your congregations that would like to sing with the St. Saviour's choir on Palm Sunday. Here are the details:
Rehearsals on Thursday, March 30 and April 6 (7-8pm)
(an earlier email had the incorrect time)
Anthem: "Lift Up Your Heads" by William Matthias
Hymns: 154, 164, 474, 435
Sanctus: S-130
It would be helpful to know who plans to sing so that I can have music ready. The anthem is not sight-readable, so rehearsal attendance is very important. You can leave a message for me anytime at St. Saviour's (288-4215).
I look forward to our Palm Sunday celebration and to having some additional voices in the choir! Please call if you have any questions.
Julia Morris-Myers
Director of Music, St. Saviour's
The St. John’s Chamber Choir of Bangor, under the direction of Kevin Birch, will present a concert of music for Lent on Sunday, April 2, at 7 pm at St. Saviour’s in Bar Harbor. Although affiliated with the music program at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bangor, the members of the group represent many different churches throughout the area. The mostly a capella program will include music by Allegri, Palestrina, Barber, Thompson, et al. ALL proceeds from donations (suggested $10) will go to Episcopal Relief and Development to aid those affected by the Pakistani earthquake last fall.
Another Lenten study opportunity is offered beginning on March 7 (for five consecutive Tuesday evenings) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Fr. Appleyard will lead the group, which will focus on Suffering and the Courage of God, Exploring How Grace and Suffering Meet by Robert Corin Morris, in the undercroft of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southwest Harbor. Please register at 288-4215.
The February Taizé service will be held at St. Saviour’s Church, Bar Harbor on Saturday, February 18 at 5 pm. This is an opportunity to worship in a quiet way with folks from other churches on MDI and beyond.

The Rev. George Swanson will lead a gathering on January 31 at 8 pm at St. Saviour’s Rectory Commons. Participants will consider how the State of the Union speech reflects biblical teaching. The group will have an opportunity to prepare a joint response. George Swanson is a retired Episcopal priest involved in justice work in Washington, D.C., and an active critic of the President’s policies.
There will be a Welcome and Hospitality Workshop on Friday, February 24, at St. Saviour’s from 7 pm to 9:30 pm. The Rev. Nancy Moore, vicar of St. John-the-Baptist, Brownville and Messiah, Dexter, will lead this wide-ranging discussion on:
“How do they ‘work’ for our newest members?” The gathering will close with Compline service. A head count beforehand would be helpful. If you plan to attend, please inform Therese in the Parish Office at telephone 288-4849 or e-mail shalom [at] acadia.net. Some books have been recommended for those who would like to prepare thoroughly.
